Before going for the trip, I estimated the total trip cost because I should not spend more money than I can afford it. I'm totally independent from my family now and I have to balance between spending and saving money.
The weather was actually not perfect for the trip because rain and thunder showers were around. I crossed my fingers and prayed for better weather.
On the first day of the trip, I drove to Sydney from Wolfville. Sydney is located in Cape Breton Island which is located in the north part of Nova Scotia.
During the drive, I was still disappointed with the weather but my trip partner is a very good-natured person and we had a nice chat.
My driving skills were not good enough for the long trip so it was exciting driving time too because I got a good drive training.
I learned one thing as one of my life skills. While I was driving the car I should not drink a coffee. If I'm driving a car, I have to stop for the washroom many times on the high way:P
We passed Sydney around the noon and arrived at Fortress of Louisburg around 2 p.m.
I was very surprised by how the buildings are restored. The restoration is perfect enough to make me wonder if I were at there 300 years ago in Louisburg.
My trip partner asked the tour guide who was helping visitors and the tour guide pointed that the restoration process was precisely done based on the documentation left by people who lived in the Fortress. I walked around inside of the Fortress and very enjoyed the pictures and items from the 18th century.
We stayed at a Bed and Breakfast called gatheringhouse in Sydney and had a good rest for the night. We arrived at Sydney very late night so most restaurants were closed but we found one cafe shop that was still open and we had a good dinner there.
The next morning, we got up a little earlier than usual and took a walk outside. Sydney is located close to the seashore and we enjoyed the view from the hill. The breakfast was very tasty. The breakfast has berries on the top of french toast and is covered with maple syrup. I really enjoyed the breakfast and we also had a nice talk with the lady who is the house owner.
We spent Day 2 driving along the cabot trail which is one of the most famous driving trails in North America.
We drive up the hills, mountains, seashores, lakes, and forests. We found some forests are protected by Parks Canada.
I think protection of natural resources is good because there are many different types of people who treats natural resources in different ways and some of them might abuse the natural resources by accident. I found that the protection area is huge and I understood how Canada appreciates their natural resources.
It was a exciting moment to drive up and down along the moutains with many curves. Every edge of the curves faces the cliff and I feel scared yet enjoy the thrill.
We took 7 to 8 hours for driving the whole trail and we also drove to Port Hawksbury for staying. The Skye Lodge is the hotel that we chose for the night.
The lodge faces the seashore and we could see the mainland of Nova Scotia from the room window. We had a dinner at the restaurant called Millers that is located in downtown of Port Hawksbury.
The next morning, we drove to Lunenburg for whale watching. In the Lunenburg, we booked one ship (of course, not only for us:P) and tried to see the whales, but unfortunately we could not make it (We made it to see seals though). I recognized that nature observation is quite different from a zoo because we are not always able to see the actual wild animals.
After our visiting the Lunenburg, we were back to Wolfville since we were too tired to drive other places. It was quite a exciting trip and we had lots of fun.
I strongly recommend you to go for a trip in Cape Breton Island.
Thank you for your reading my whole post. I'll see you in next post.
Stay Tuned.
